New Fishing Club Member to Help Plan Oct. 18 Tackle Show
Former Whale Creek Marina owner Karen Mitchell will join Dan Ladik in organizing the event.

It didn’t take long for the Ocean City Fishing Club to put Karen Mitchell to work again.
The Strathmere resident, who owned the nearby Whale Creek Marina until she retired a few years ago, is one of the newest members of the club that’s celebrating its 100th anniversary with a three-day Centennial Surf Fishing Tournament October 17-19.
“Because of her background in the industry, we thought Karen would be ideal to help guide our thinking as we put together the components of our tackle show,” said Mike Hayes, the tournament coordinator. “We are grateful that she’s pitching in.”

Hayes said Ms. Mitchell will be working with Dan Ladik, an Ocean City Fishing Club trustee and also one of the organizers of the tournament.
The tackle show will be held at the Ocean City Sports and Civic Center on the second day of the tournament, Friday, October 18, at 7 pm. During the event, vendors will display the latest rods, reels, lures, rigs and other equipment. In addition, several organizations, including the Recreational Fishing Alliance, the Association of Surf Angling Clubs, and the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce will have informational tables.

Each team that is registered in the tournament will receive admission tickets, and the public will also be invited to attend the show for a modest entrance fee of $3. Pizza and soft drinks will be served, and door prizes will be awarded.
The Ocean City Sports and Civic Center is a 12,000-square-foot facility for sports, entertainment and special-interest events. It is located at E. 6th Street and Wayne Avenue.
For information about opportunities for renting tables at the tackle show, contact Dan Ladik at 856-261-4521 or djladik@comcast.net.
