Ocean City Company Offers Tours, Tubing, Waterskiing, Wakeboarding

Totally Tubular Sports at 314 Bay Avenue lets visitors enjoy the bayside.

A new business will do its best this season to let summer visitors experience the bay — the less-popular sibling of Ocean City's beach and boardwalk.

"It's a different perspective on Ocean City," said T.J. Heist, a 2011 Ocean City High School graduate and Washington College junior who purchased Totally Tubular Watersports over the winter.

Heist is offering tours of the bay at any speed — fast or slow, dry or wet, airborne, immersed or skimming along the surface.

His two Yamaha AR210 Jet Boats let customers go tubing, waterskiiing, wakeboarding or just touring. Sunset cruises allow leisurely journeys on the bay, and the company is even offering trips to the ocean side to view Fourth of July fireworks.

Heist said the ski tours cater to customers of any level of experience. His staff is ready to give lessons and instruction to first-timers or to help accomplished skiers and wakeboarders find great conditions.

Heist and fellow OCHS Class of 2011 graduate Brian Lowe (University of Delaware) are U.S. Coast Guard-certified captains, and their boats are fully equipped with all required safety gear. They work with T.J. Lasco, a native of West Chester, Pa., who attends Drexel University.

The young and knowledgeable crew is a big part of the allure of the tours. They're professional, fun and masters of the watersports they teach. Before he purchased the business, Heist worked as a captain for four years under the previous ownership.

He said one of the most rewarding parts of the job is seeing the same families return each year — with family members progressing from tubes, to skis to wakeboards.

The jet boats they use have no propellers — keeping customers safe. The tour company operates seven days a week, and prices start at $65 per person (see website for more detail on packages). Reservations are recommended (609-398-9000).

And the company offers photo packages to help preserve those great summer memories.
