Peace Group to Hold Hiroshima/Nagasaki Commemoration
The event will be held at the Bayside Center in Ocean City at 7 p.m. Aug. 7.

Shiho Burke and Joe Mangano will be speakers for the Aug. 7 annual Hiroshima/Nagasaki Commemoration to be held 7 p.m. at the Bayside Center at 520 Bay Avenue in Ocean City.
Shiho's mother is a Hibakusha, a survivor of the Hiroshima atomic bombing and also a survivor of the Fukushima nuclear power meltdowns. Shiho will, like last year in Somers Point, give a talk about her mother's experiences and her own experiences, growing up as the child of a Hibakusha. Shiho is a local businessperson in the import-export business. Shiho has just returned from a visit to Japan.
Joe Mangano is the Executive Director of RPHP, the Radiation and Public Health Project, the only organization that studies the effect of radiation on the citizens of the United States, both from nuclear power plants and from nuclear weapons testing. See www.radiation.org. He lives in Ocean City.

Norm Cohen, executive director of the Coalition for Peace and Justice, commented:Â
"Our annual commemoration is one of hundreds held around the country. We do not discuss whether President Truman's decision to drop the bombs was correct or not, nor do we want to re-fight World War II again.

"War is hell, and every death on any side was wrong and should be mourned. What we focus on is that never again should nuclear weapons be used in war, and that nuclear power has dangers that must be recognized."Â
