OCEAN CITY, NJ — Amid a recent rash of local motor vehicle thefts, Ocean City police are urging residents and visitors alike to be mindful and help prevent becoming a victim.

Police shared the following practices that can help prevent thefts:

  • DO NOT leave your keys or key fob in your unlocked vehicle. ⁣
  • Keep keys in a safe location inside the house where they cannot be easily accessed. ⁣
  • Again, please, DO NOT leave the keys to your vehicle in the ignition, cup holder, or any other location inside of your unlocked car. ⁣
  • Be sure to close your garage door and and lock any doors leading into these areas. ⁣

"Taking these simple, yet often overlooked, precautions can and will be the difference maker in ensuring your car stays in your possession," police said. "When you see your neighbors, make sure to pass along this message so together we can bring this issue to a (hopefully) permanent end."
