Teen Curfew To Be Strictly Enforced In Jersey Shore Town This Summer

A state of emergency was declared in Wildwood last Memorial Day when things got out of hand. Authorities say that won't happen again.

WILDWOOD, NJ — Memorial Day 2024 was hectic and chaotic in Cape May County - a state of emergency had to be declared in Wildwood after so many calls were made to police. Now, ahead of Memorial Day 2025, Wildwood authorities have announced new safety measures as to prevent this from happening again.

“We want everyone to have a great time in Wildwood, but safety comes first. Our boardwalk is a family-friendly destination, and we are committed to maintaining that environment,” Wildwood Police Chief Joseph Murphy said in a news release.

Under the banner of “Every Night Is A Family Night,” Wildwood authorities announced a number of measures focused on keeping things safe for everyone. One major aspect is that a 10 p.m. curfew for minors will be strictly enforced, officials said. This means that minors who don't follow the law could potentially get arrested - along with their parents and/or guardians, officials said.

Additionally, the following safety enhancements will be implemented, Deputy Mayor/Commissioner of Public Safety Steve Mikulski said.

  • Installation of protective bollards along the boardwalk.
  • Increased surveillance through strategically placed cameras
  • Expanded police presence and monitoring.

“Listen, this isn’t a suggestion — it’s the law,” said Mayor Ernie Troiano. “We’re not playing games when it comes to the safety of our boardwalk and the families who come here to enjoy themselves. You break the rules, you deal with the consequences. Plain and simple.”
