School Board Appoints Cecelia Gallelli-Keyes to 1-Year Term

The Ocean City Board of Education on Wednesday appointed Cecelia Gallelli-Keyes to complete the final year of an unexpired term on the board.

Gallelli-Keyes will serve until the election in November 2014. She fills the seat vacated when Greg Donahue resigned in August 2013.

Gallelli-Keyes is president of the Ocean City Parent Teacher Association and a member of the Ocean City Education Foundation Board.

She was among four candidates interviewed in public session by the board on Wednesday (Dec. 18). The other candidates included Dale Braun, Michael Foster and David Powell.

 "The pool of candidates was among the best I've ever seen," board member Joe Clark said.

In the end, Gallelli-Keyes was the only candidate nominated for a vote. She was approved unanimously.

Seven candidates were on the ballot in the November 2013 election to fill the same seat. But the winner, Jon Batastini, immediately vacated the seat because he also was successful as a write-in candidate for a full three-year term.
