See Famous Dr. Seuss Characters This Week In Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Oh, the places you'll go! See some of the most beloved Dr. Seuss characters together this week with the Ocean City Theatre Company's production of "Seussical Jr."

The cast is made up of 36 talented middle school students, the theatre company said in a release. Performances will take place at the Ocean City Music Pier on Friday, Aug. 23 and Saturday, Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased at oceancitytheatrecompany.com or 45-minutes prior to curtain on show days.

Oh, the people you will see and the thinks you will think at SEUSSICAL JR! The Dr. Seuss stories we all know and love have been combined into a magical musical extravaganza from Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. OCTC's talented student performers will bring to life your favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Mayzie LaBird, and the Whos of Whoville! The imagination runs wild amidst the toe-tapping cornucopia of musical styles, ranging from Latin to pop, swing to gospel, and R&B to funk. For kids and parents who grew up reading Dr. Seuss's books, this musical stage show adaption of the classic stories will be fun for the whole family.

Audiences will be transported from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus while the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers and guard an abandoned egg left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

OCTC's production of "Seussical Jr." is under the direction of Hannah Catanoso, Angie Coccuza and Brinley Edwards. The creative team consists of Laura Bretherick (costumes), James Hartman (set), Peggy Fotusky (scenic art), and the Ocean City Music Pier staff (audio/lighting). Based on the works of Dr. Seuss, "Seussical Jr." features a book, music, and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty and was conceived by Ahrens, Flaherty, and Eric Idle with music supervision/adaptation by Bryan Louiselle. "Seussical Jr." is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). MTI also supplies all authorized performance materials.
