CAPE MAY COUNTY, NJ — The coronavirus continues to have an impact on New Jersey and Cape May County (see-town-by-town data below).
Cape May County saw a drop in COVID-19 cases since last week. According to the Cape May County Department of Health, there were 480 active cases in the county on Friday, down from the 567 reported the previous week on Sept. 3.
The county’s rate of transmission fell below 1.0 this week for the first time since July 14, according to health department officials.

An RT below 1.0 indicates that the spread of COVID-19 is decreasing, officials said. The current RT is 0.95, according to the website covidactnow.org.
“It is encouraging to see the rate of transmission drop below that key 1.0 threshold,” said Cape May County Commissioner Jeffrey Pierson, liaison to the Cape May County Department of Health. “We continue to encourage residents to get vaccinated so that they protect themselves and their loved ones.”

Cape May County officials provided the following breakdown of active cases by town, with active case totals from Sept. 3 in parentheses:

- Lower Township: 116 (124)
- Middle Township: 114 (145)
- North Wildwood: 25 (28)

- Stone Harbor: 7 (7)
- Upper Township: 53 (73)
- West Cape May: 1 (3)
- West Wildwood: 1 (2)
- Wildwood: 35 (54)
- Wildwood Crest: 14 (17)
- Woodbine: 10 (17)
The state Department of Health reports that 61,997 Cape May County residents have received at least one vaccine dose and 56,250 have been fully vaccinated as of Friday.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 63 percent of the county’s population is fully vaccinated.
The Cape May County Department of Health is providing COVID-19 vaccinations in the community weekly.
This upcoming week, vaccines will be available:
- Tuesday, Sept. 14: 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at County Commons, 3801 U.S. 9, Rio Grande
- Wednesday, Sept. 15: 1 to 6 p.m. at the Cape May County Department of Health building, 6 Moore Rd. in Cape May Court House
- Thursday, Sept. 16: 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Branches, 1304 Rt. 47 So, Rio Grande
- Saturday ,Sept. 18: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sea Isle City Fall Family Festival, JFK Blvd. & Promenade Sea Isle City
