The Day the Music Lived

City Council refuses to consider an ordinance that would ban Ocean City Boardwalk musicians from soliciting donations.

It began, apparently, with a concern from Ocean City police about small congregations on an already crowded boardwalk: a proposed ordinance to prohibit musicians and performers on the Ocean City Boardwalk from soliciting or accepting gifts without a permit.

It continued with the righteous indignation of musicians and music-lovers alike. "Aren't street musicians a part of any decent city or town?" they asked.

And it died on Thursday night when not a single member of City Council motioned to bring a second reading of the ordinance to the table.
