Updates on Weekend of OCBP Lifeguard Events

A benefit for Bill Lamon will go on rain or shine Friday night. No word yet on a postponement of the South Jersey Lifeguard Championship.

  • As of noon Friday, no decision on a potential postponement of the South Jersey Lifeguard Championships scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday (Aug. 9) at Decatur Avenue Beach in Margate. The National Weather Service forecast for Friday afternoon and evening says showers are likely and thunderstorms possible. Ocean City Beach Patrol will try to bring home a title it last held in 2011.
  • A post-Jerseys fundraiser for injured OCBP lifeguard Bill Lamon at Back Bay Barbecue on the Longport causeway will go on Friday night rain or shine (and whether or not Jerseys are postponed). More information on the benefit.
  • Russell Leary will be the 17th lifeguard to receive the Stowe Award. He and Bryan Rahter will be inducted into the Ocean City Beach Patrol Hall of Fame at the Lifeguard Reunion Party, Saturday evening, Aug. 10 at Sandi Pointe Coastal Bistro, 908 Shore Road in Somers Point.   • New Ocean City Beach Patrol alumni races are still scheduled for Sunday morning (Aug. 11) at Seaview Harbor Beach on the Longport causeway. More information on the races.
