Alex Rodriguez, Bud Selig Attend Union Leader's Services in Paramus

Major League Baseball Players' Union Executive Director dies at 51. Alex Rodriguez and Bud Seilg attended with the services along with other members of the MLB family. Check out some of the reaction to his passing.

Michael Weiner, the executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Union, passed away on Thursday at age 51.

Alex Rodriguez and Bud Selig were just a few of the faces from Major League Baseball in attendance at services for Weiner at Robert Schoem’s Menorah Chapel in Paramus on Sunday. 

Wiener took his position with MLB in Dec. of 2009 and helped the union sign their current contract in November of 2011. The deal will run through 2016.

According to a report by the New York Daily News, Wiener died from brain cancer after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in August 2012.

Pittsburg Pirates all-star outfielder Andrew McCutchen tweeted, "Michael Weiner worked even thru his sickness. He didn't look at it as an excuse to quit. An amazing person to us all."

Rodriguez was the only active player to attend the service.

There has been recent conflict between Rodriguez and Selig in an arbitration hearing over the 211-game suspension Selig dolled out over the summer. Rodriguez stormed out of the room and called the procedure, that was organized by MLB and the MLB Players Union, a farce.

Selig and Rodriguez did not cross paths at the services, according to the report
