Berkeley College Provides Aid to Superstorm Sandy Affected Communities

Paramus campus participated in relief efforts with American Red Cross and local food banks to assist Superstorm Sandy victims

In the wake of Superstorm Sandy, Berkeley College has initiated a systemwide relief effort in support of the American Red Cross and food banks that serve those affected by the storm. The effort was organized through Berkeley Cares, which assists charities in the critical areas of food, shelter, health and student success.

“Many of our students, associates and alumni experienced personal hardships as a result of Superstorm Sandy,” said Dario A. Cortes, PhD, Berkeley College President. “We continue to offer help and support to our neighbors who are still in need.”

Non-perishable food and toiletries were collected at the College’s locations in New York and New Jersey and by Berkeley College Online. Berkeley College associates also were encouraged to make monetary donations to the American Red Cross, the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and the Food Bank for New York City’s Virtual Food Bank.

Early results of the effort included a delivery of nearly 500 pounds of food and toiletries to the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, as well as a truckload of items to the American Red Cross serving the Staten Island area. The last deliveries of the year will be made to the food banks this week.
