Man Fends Off Armed Robber On Residential Street In Paramus: Police

A man was held up when he got out of his car on a residential street in Paramus, police said, adding that criminals are becoming "brazen."

PARAMUS, NJ — A man escaped an armed robber who demanded his wallet and watch in Paramus Monday night, police said.

Police Chief Robert Guidetti said that around 7:10 p.m. Monday, Paramus Police officers responded to a report of an armed robbery on Burnett Place.

Police said a 53-year-old resident told them that a "dark-skinned male wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a surgical mask" approached him as he was getting out of his vehicle.

The suspect brandished a handgun and demanded the victim’s wallet, keys, and watch, police said.

"In an act of self-defense, the victim pushed the suspect away and ran," police said.

The suspect fled the scene on foot without getting any valuables, police said.
