Hop on the Struggle Bus: NJ Transit Focuses on Faster Buses

NJ Transit has revamped its data gathering methods and found that 32 percent of buses are late.

New Jersey Transit has just found that its buses are only on time 68 percent of the time.

Older findings put their punctuality at 86 percent, but they recently changed their methods for gathering data. In the past, workers would check the time when buses left the terminal. They did not check when the buses arrived at stops along their routes.

Even within the new parameters, NJ Transit allows its buses a six-minute grace period.

Because of these new findings, NJ Transit hopes to raise their punctuality rates to 71 percent. According to Chasing NJ, they will focus on improving 33 current bus routes.
