It's Official: Paramus Stew Leonard's Has A Grand Opening Date

PARAMUS, NJ - The new Stew Leonard's store in Paramus Park Mall has a grand opening date - Sept. 18, according to a spokeswoman for the chain.

Additional events to mark the opening of Stew Leonard's first-ever store in New Jersey are expected, also.

According to a newly-released map – which is available for download here– shoppers can view (and drool?) over the layout of the 80,000-square-foot store.

Stew Leonard's infamous one-way aisle winds its way through designated sections for freshly made donuts and coffee, ice cream, flowers, barbecue fare, burgers, sushi, pizza, Asian wok, a hot & cold buffet, a deli counter, seafood, fresh made mozzarella and other cheeses, a butcher shop, produce, dairy, popcorn, cookies, cupcakes, cakes, bagels, a bakery and wine, spirits and beer.

If you're looking for entertainment, there's plenty of it, according to the map.

Interactive "Push Button" shows planned in the store include: "Larry the Boar's Head Man," "Stew's Naked Chicken Singers," "Three Good Eggs," "The Farm Fresh Five," "Chiquita Banana," "Doodle-Doo the Rooster," "The Guacamole Girls" and "Hank & Bo Farmers' Market."

While there's no loyalty card program for shoppers, don't worry – you'll still get some free perks.

For every $100 spent, shoppers can score freebies such as a scoop of ice cream. The company is also known for its ironclad customer service policy, which is visible near entrances of stores ("Rule 1: The customer is always right. Rule 2: If the customer is ever wrong, reread rule 1.")

The supermarket, which will take the place of the mall's anchor spot previously held by the now-shuttered Sears, is expected to bring 400 jobs to the area and give locals a fun, festive and fresh shopping experience.

The family-owned grocery chain began in 1969 as a small dairy store with seven employees. It has since expanded to six locations in Connecticut and New York, employing more than 2,200 people. It also licenses its name to nine wine shops, including locations in Paramus, Clifton and Springfield.

There are plans to move Stew Leonard's Wines & Spirits of Paramus, currently located on Route 17, to the interior of the new store, making it the chains first supermarket to sell both food and wine.
