Overwhelming Support Received By Family Of Late Bergen Police Sergeant
"Jason Liaban was an admirable member of so many communities, and his heart was so full of love and giving," the GoFundMe organizers said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Community support has surged for the family of a Bergen County police sergeant who died of apparent suicide last week.
As of Tuesday morning, more than $55,000 has been raised for the family of Maywood police Sgt. Jason Liaban, who — Patch reported — died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound last week.
"We lost a loyal husband, loving father and son, supportive brother, cousin, teammate, coworker and best friend," GoFundMe organizer Nicole Martin-Depelteau said of Liaban.

Liaban, a 16-year veteran of the Maywood Police Department, was married to his "high school sweetheart" Kriezl Liaban for 22 years. He also had four children (ages 12, 10, 7 and 5), for whom he was the "biggest fan and cheerleader," the fundraiser said.
"Jason was an admirable member of so many communities, and his heart was so full of love and giving," Martin-Depelteau, Maywood resident and godmother to Liaban's eldest daughter, said. "He touched so many lives and supported where and when he could."

"His smile and laughter were infectious."
In an effort to honor Liaban, Martin-Depeltaeau — who said she has known Liaban since she was 14 — asked for help to assist in providing for funeral costs and other expenses, and for the futures of his children.
"(Jason's wife) Kriezl has a long road ahead in caring for her family," longtime friend Martin-Depeltaeau said. "Any support and all prayers are needed and appreciated."
"Thank you everyone for your overwhelming support."
