Crashes Reported On Bergen County Highways During Winter Storm

An overturned truck on Route 4 is causing delays. Two lanes are closed.

PARAMUS, NJ — The winter storm that is blanketing North Jersey with snow, sleet, and freezing ice caused some crashes on major highways Tuesday.

  • A crash on the Garden State Parkway southbound at 165 was blocking a lane, 511nj.org, the state's emergency traffic notification system, reported.
  • There was an overturned truck on Route 4 westbound in Englewood near Interstate 95 and the George Washington Bridge. Two lanes are closed causing a 20-minute delay.
  • Three vehicles were involved in a crash on Route 17 in Ridgewood Thursday night. The crash caused a utility pole to topple, Daily Voice reported.
  • In related news, a water main broke in Tenafly at about 2:30 p.m.; Dean Drive was closed in both directions. It is unknown if the break was caused by temperatures or the weather.

Roads were slick and icy throughout North Jersey and were predicted to worsen as the day progresses. Even ferry shuttle service in Fort Lee was canceled Tuesday night.

In Wayne, Route 202 and Ratzer Road, two major roads, are icy and motorists are urged to use caution when driving on these and other roads.
