For 62 years, Dan Cooney lived with a tremor that increasingly stole his ability to perform daily tasks and, most heartbreakingly, his passion for restoring his 1969 Camaro. After decades of struggling with essential tremor and medications that were losing their effectiveness, Dan discovered a life-changing opportunity.

A groundbreaking, incision-free procedure called Focused Ultrasound (FUS) offered new hope. At Hackensack University Medical Center, Dan was placed under the care of Hooman Azmi, M.D., the Director of Functional and Restorative Neurosurgery at the Hackensack Meridian Neuroscience Institute. Dr. Azmi identified Dan as a perfect candidate for the innovative treatment, which uses sound waves guided by an MRI to treat the specific area of the brain causing the tremors. Hackensack Meridian Health was the first in New Jersey to offer this revolutionary procedure.

The results were immediate and profound. After two separate treatments to address the tremors in both of his hands, Dan's steadiness was restored. He could once again enjoy the simple things many take for granted.

The ultimate prize? Dan and his friend finally completed the restoration of his beloved '69 Camaro—a project decades in the making. Not only is he back in the driver's seat, but he recently took home a first-place trophy at a car show.
