GARFIELD, NJ — A woman was arrested Thursday for assaulting and abusing a child, prosecutors said.

Darlene Guzman, 33, of Garfield was charged with simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said that on Thursday, the state Division of Child Protection and Permanency contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding an alleged child abuse incident that had occurred in Garfield.

Investigators determined that Guzman had physically assaulted the child on Wednesday, prosecutors said.

She was taken to the Bergen County Jail to await a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court, prosecutors said.
