PARAMUS, NJ — A woman who robbed a store with a butcher knife earlier this month and tried robbing another on Tuesday was arrested, police reported.

Nicole L. Travers, 32, of Landing was charged with robbery, attempted robbery, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, said Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg.

Police got a call at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Mandee store on Route 4 West about a woman who brandished a large butcher knife and tried to rob the store, Ehrenberg said.

The cashier was not able to open the cash drawn so the woman left the store, Ehrenberg said. She threw the knife away in the parking lot and boarded a jitney bus, he said.

Officer Matthew Orefice responded to the robbery and saw a woman matching the description given to police on a jitney bus on Route 4 West. The bus stopped near IKEA. Orefice and Officer Keith Bland boarded it, and they arrested Travers, the chief said.
