PARSIPPANY, NJ — If you’re like many of your Parsippany neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.
Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.
Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Parsippany area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:
- Community Hope — Community Hope's mission is to serve as a beacon of hope, connecting individuals and families with life-changing support, services, and housing that foster independence and resilience. The organization provides housing and support to homeless veterans, veteran families and adults with mental illness.
- Parsippany Area Chamber of Commerce — The Parsippany Area Chamber of Commerce is a service organization that supports businesses, merchants, residents, and volunteers in the Parsippany area by providing education, information and networking opportunities. They work closely with local and county governments and are dedicated to addressing issues that can make the community a better place to live, work and do business.
- Interfaith Food Pantry Network — The Interfaith Food Pantry Network is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Morris County residents in need by providing access to food, nutrition education, and related resources. For over 25 years, they have been a leader in the fight against hunger throughout Morris County.
- Literacy Volunteers Of Morris County — Literacy Volunteers of Morris County (LVMC) is a nonprofit organization offering free one-on-one and small group tutoring to adults in over 40 Morris County communities. Their services are available to individuals 18 and older who need help with:
- English as a Second Language (ESL)
- Reading and Writing Skills
- GED/HiSet Preparation
- Basic Math
- Citizenship Preparation
- Parsippany Police Athletic League — In close cooperation with the Parsippany-Troy Hills Youth Services Section of the Parsippany Police Department, the Parsippany PAL (Police Athletic League) has grown to serve over 4,000 children from Parsippany and the surrounding areas. With more than 50 programs, the PAL offers a wide range of activities and sports to support the development of local youth.
