Abandoned Dog Found At Parsippany Apartment Complex

The dog was found by Parsippany Animal Control and Shelter emaciated, starving, limping, and with bite wounds on her body.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — An abandoned dog was discovered emaciated, starving, limping, and covered in bite wounds in Parsippany.

According to Parsippany Animal Control and Shelter, the dog, named Nina, was found abandoned at an apartment complex in town.

"We could tell her heart was broken, even after being abandoned by her person and suffering through the poor care she received from them. We gave her the name Nina, even though that's likely not her name, but she seems happy with it," shelter officials said.

After receiving veterinary care, it was determined that Nina, an older dog, suffers from several degenerative conditions, including hip dysplasia, knee problems, and arthritis. The shelter reported that Nina is improving, thanks to proper nutrition, pain management and medical treatment.

As of Tuesday, authorities had not released any information about who abandoned Nina or how long she had been left alone.

"Sweet Nina doesn't belong in a shelter. We are looking for an adopter or rescue to brighten her sad eyes. She will be spayed prior to adoption," the shelter said on social media.

According to officials, Nina is highly social and affectionate, loving to be close to people and always eager to be near them. Behavior-wise, she’s low-maintenance—just belly rubs, a warm bed, food, and regular potty breaks, and she’ll be grateful.

While Nina doesn’t seem bothered by cats, she’s a bit afraid of them and tends to keep her distance. She’s not fond of other dogs, so it’s recommended she be the only dog in the home, officials said.

If you're interested in meeting Nina, please submit an adoption application using the link here. Applications will be reviewed, and suitable homes will be contacted promptly to arrange a meet-and-greet, the shelter said.

"We know finding what Nina needs is not an easy task, but we are hopeful she has an angel out there," the shelter added.
