Amazon To Open 2 More Central Jersey Locations, Create 2,000 Jobs
Online retail giant said local demand requires need for New Jersey expansion.

Having set its footprint in the Garden State last year, online retail giant Amazon announced Wednesday it will be opening two more locations in New Jersey and bringing with it the opportunity for thousands of jobs.
In a press release posted to its website April 27, Amazon said it will be opening the locations in Florence and Cateret, citing the expansion coming as a result of increasing demand in the area.
“We place our fulfillment centers close to customers to provide the fastest possible delivery times, and this expansion in New Jersey is directly tied to our increasing customer demand,” said Akash Chauhan, Amazon’s vice president of North America fulfillment operations in the statement. “We currently have more than 5,500 full-time jobs in the state and we are excited about the opportunity to add 2,000 new full-time positions.”

The current Carteret location has more than 500 full-time associates. The new fulfillment center in Carteret will be more than 800,000 square-feet and employ some 1,500 full-time workers. A 600,000 square-foot location in Florence will employ more than 500 full-time associates.

Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno applauded the announcement, saying, “More fulfillment centers mean more jobs for New Jersey, and, while we celebrate the sheer number of jobs being created, we also want to recognize the impact that these investments will have on their new communities. The employees who will work with Amazon will form the fabric of their neighborhoods.”
