NORTH JERSEY — Another round of heavy rain is in the forecast this week for North Jersey, a week after the remnants of Hurricane Ida devastated the region.

The National Weather Service warned that heavy rainfall could hit North Jersey on Wednesday. Much of the region has a "marginal risk" of excessive rainfall, according to the agency.

Wednesday's storm also brings the threat of damaging winds and isolated tornadoes, the National Weather Service said. The greatest tornado threat, as of Tuesday morning, is near and north of Philadelphia.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for North Jersey. The flood watch lasts from 4 p.m. Wednesday to 2 a.m. Thursday in Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Somerset, Sussex and Warren Counties. A flood watch will run from 5 p.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Union and Passaic Counties.

North Jersey has a "marginal" (5 to 10 percent) to "slight" (10 to 20 percent) chance of flash flooding. The most vulnerable spots include urban settings, roads and small streams.

Wednesday will begin with a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. There's a 50 percent chance of precipitation during the day, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters then anticipate showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, with some of the storms producing heavy rain. There's an 80 percent chance of rain, with between a half and three-quarters of an inch possible, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday begins with a 30 percent chance of showers before the forecast clears for Thursday night.

The latest round of potentially heavy rain comes just a week after the remnants from Hurricane Ida pounded the region on Sept. 1, bringing heavy flooding and destroying homes.

The storm killed 27 people in New Jersey, Gov. Phil Murphy said Saturday. President Joe Biden issued a major-disaster declaration for Bergen, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Passaic and Somerset Counties.
