PARSIPPANY, NJ — Thirty-thousand participants will cross the starting line Monday at the 2022 Boston Marathon. Five of them live in Parsippany, according to race organizers.

For the first time since 2019, the Boston Marathon will take place on Patriots' Day — a Massachusetts holiday commemorating the opening battles of the American Revolutionary War. The day begins with military marchers at 6 a.m., with several waves of athletes beginning the race in Hopkinton throughout the morning.

Parsippany's participants will include local pharmacist Jigar Amin, who shared his marathon story with Patch. Amin will run to raise funds for the Joslin Diabetes Center, which is headquartered in Boston. He generated about $4,800 for the cause as of Thursday morning, according to his fundraising page.
