Helmet Safety Initiative Launched After 8-Year-Old's Death In Parsippany

After the tragic loss of an eight-year-old boy in a bicycle accident earlier this month, Parsippany is focusing efforts on helmet safety.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — The recent death of an eight-year-old boy who was hit and killed while riding his bike has prompted a new Helmet Safety Initiative, according to the Parsippany Police Department.

Through this initiative anytime an officer sees a child riding a bike without a helmet, they can provide them with one so they can return home safely. Some officers were instructed on how to fit helmets onto children properly by the League of American Bicyclists and NJ Bicycle Bike & Walk Coalition.

Along with providing fitted helmets to children biking without one, the initiative will include educating community members of all ages on bicycle safety.
