1 Killed In Fiery Car Crash On Morris County Highway: Police
According to police, all northbound lanes of Route 23 remain closed while the crash is being investigated.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — One person is dead following a fiery car crash on Route 23 northbound in Morris County early Monday morning, according to authorities.
Pequannock Township police said the crash happened shortly after 5 a.m. at the intersection of Route 23 and Alexander Avenue in Pequannock.
The collision occurred between a garbage truck and a 2020 Chevy Traverse, and when police arrived, both vehicles were on fire.

Prior to police arrival, both the garbage truck driver and a good Samaritan had removed the unconscious driver from the Chevy Traverse.
Rescue efforts by patrol officers and medical personnel were unsuccessful. The adult male driver of the Chevy was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Both lanes of the highway were initially shut down, but 511 NJ reports that all southbound lanes have since been reopened.
According to police, all northbound lanes of Route 23 remain closed as the crash is still being investigated.
