From Bahamas To Parsippany: Shelter Dog Seeks Home 2 Years After Hurricane Dorian

Austin and his family evacuated the hurricane-ravaged Bahamas in 2019. They had to return but could not bring him back.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — More than two years after Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas, one dog's long journey brought him to the Parsippany Animal Shelter. Now, Austin is looking for a loving home.

After Hurricane Dorian — a Category 5 hurricane — made its way to the Bahamas in summer 2019, Austin was evacuated to a Humane Society in Florida. His family later evacuated and reunited with him.

They ended up in New Jersey. But several months ago, Austin's family had to return to the Bahamas but couldn't bring him with them. So they surrendered him to the Parsippany Animal Control and Shelter.

"Austin is a fantastic companion!" Parsippany Animal Control wrote on social media. "He is a goofy, fun-loving, sweet, well-behaved guy. He is fully housebroken, likes other dogs and is good with children. Austin is 8 years old and would love a family to hang out with."

Submit an adoption application online. Once your application is processed and approved, the shelter will contact you to schedule an appointment.
