Flood Alert, Freezing Rain Expected in Parsippany

With Freezing Rain advisory for the area Friday night and a flood watch going into effect on Saturday at 11 a.m., the township of Parsippany-Troy Hills is suggesting residents take this opportunity to test out their pumps

Mayor Jamie Barberio and Chief of Police Paul Philipps announced Friday evening that “now would be a great time to test the sump pump. A flood watch goes into effect tomorrow at 11 a.m. and will more than likely be extended into tomorrow night.”

They added that the township is “expecting two inches of rain on top of snow, on top of saturated thawing ground. We may have road-flooding issues in areas that are prone to flooding during periods of heavy rain ‘such as Rt. 46 between Baldwin Rd. and N. Beverwyck Rd.’ Always remember to never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway. Major ... river flooding is not predicted at this time,” according to Barberio and Philipps’ alert. 

The National Weather Service issued a flood watch and a link to monitor the level of the Rockaway River in real time along with predictions of the river level in the near future. 

“Whether it be Rescue and Recovery or our Fire Departments pumping out flooded basements or our Police and EMS agencies responding to your life threatening emergencies. As always, Parsippany's Emergency Services will be standing by and ready to respond,” said Barberio and Philipps.
