Flooding, Road Closures Continue In Parsippany
The Rockaway River remains at a moderate flood level.
PARSIPPANY, NJ — The Rockaway River remains at a moderate flood level in Parsippany as of Tuesday morning after parts of New Jersey were walloped by rainy weather yesterday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook and a Flood Watch that remained in effect in the Morris County region until 6 p.m. on Monday.
The Parsippany police report that the river peaked 7.84 feet below the Boonton Dam during the night. This is the biggest crest since Hurricane Irene in 2011 and the tenth-highest crest for that site in the 120-year record.

The Passaic River is rising even though the Rockaway River level has been dropping since around 1:00 a.m. This will affect the southeast part of town, specifically the New and Edwards Road sections, until the river crests later this week.
Rising floodwaters continue to impact residents along Sagamore Road, White Oak Road, and White Oak Court. They should keep gathering necessary belongings, like mobile phones, chargers, identification, and medications, in case the water level rises during the day and they have to relocate.

The Office of Emergency Management and the Parsippany Police Department are continuing to monitor these impacts on the township and residents.
Currently, the following roadways remain closed:
- New Road between Rt. 46 and South Edwards Rd
- Edwards Rd. between Winfield Dr. and Old Bloomfield Ave (local traffic only)
- The Vail Rd. Bridge into Montville
- The Knoll Rd. Bridge into Montville
Additionally, the Parsippany-Troy Hills School District has called for a 2-hour delayed opening.
The public is urged to avoid floodwaters since they can easily be washed away and/or into storm drains and exposed manhole covers. For the same reasons that emergency services have already had to extract a trapped vehicle occupant, avoid driving over flooded waterways.
