Former Parsippany Middle School Teacher Passes Away

Abe Elias worked as an English and social studies teacher in the district for years.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Abraham "Abe" Elias, a longtime middle school teacher in Parsippany, passed away this week. He was 89 years old.

According to an obituary posted online:

He served in the United States Army from 1949 to 1951 during the Korean War. Abe relocated to New Jersey in the early '60's, where he attended Newark State College and received his bachelor's degree.
He worked as an English and Social Studies teacher at Parsippany Troy Hills Central Middle School for many years and was a member of MCREA, NJREA, NEA and in recent years, The Milford Garden Club.
Growing up, he enjoyed music and singing with his brother and sister. During his high school years at Manchester Central, he had lead parts in Gilbert and Sullivan productions and shared that interest with his children and nephews.
Abe was a well-loved and dedicated teacher who brought with him an enthusiasm and contagious energy both in and out of the classroom by introducing his students to an appreciation for literature, writing, music, theater and the beauty of the West through his photography.

Elias is survived by his wife, Shelia, children Anne and Matthew and his wife Susie, and grandchildren. Donations can be made in his memory to the Parkinson Research Foundation (15359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018).
