Freak Accident Kills 6-Year-Old Daughter Of Morris Co. Pastor

More than $90,000 has been raised for the family of Lucy Morgan, after she was fatally injured by a piece of a badminton racquet.

ROCKAWAY, NJ — A local family is mourning their six-year-old daughter after a tragic accident that happened while her siblings were playing badminton, her family said.

Lucy Morgan of Stockholm was on vacation with her family in Maine, according to her father Jesse, who is a pastor at Green Pond Bible Chapel in Rockaway. He said Lucy was outside with her siblings on the last day of their trip when one of their badminton racquets suddenly broke, and a sharp piece entered her skull.

Maine State Police said the accident happened around noon on June 1 in the town of Limerick. The shaft of the badminton racquet became dislodged from the handle and pierced through her skull, officials said in their investigation.

"We are praying for a miracle but our hearts hurt with incomprehensible pain," he wrote on Saturday.

On Wednesday, Pastor Morgan said that Lucy "passed away and is in the arms of Jesus."

Morgan expressed his gratitude to the congregation, fellow church leaders, and community members who have been supporting the family in their time of grief.

A memorial service is set for June 15 at 11 a.m. at Green Pond Bible Chapel, 1083 Green Pond Rd, Newfoundland, NJ. The service will be streamed online, as well.
