How Hot Will Parsippany Get? Local Forecast Amid New Heatwave

New Jersey's in for another hotter-than-usual summer week, according to forecasters. Here's what to expect in Parsippany.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — New Jersey's in for another outrageously hot week, according to forecasters. And Parsippany will be no exception, according to the National Weather Service.

A heatwave that brought record-breaking temperatures to the Northwest will shift eastward during the first week of August, according to AccuWeather, bringing temperatures from near-average levels to 5-15 degrees Fahrenheit above normal. In New Jersey, that may mean temperatures that feel hotter than 100 degrees.

Temperatures will begin warming up Tuesday, with a maximum heat index of 92 in the Parsippany area, according to the National Weather Service. The agency projects a high of 90 Wednesday before Thursday's projected high of 102 degrees, when officials expect this hot stretch to peak.

Much of New Jersey has been "abnormally dry" in recent weeks, according to the National Drought Mitigation Center, which partners with federal agencies. But the agency elevated six counties Thursday to "moderate drought" status — one level away from "extreme drought" conditions. The most recent heatwave ended a few days before the National Drought Mitigation Center released its weekly map. Read more: NJ Drought Risk, Water Shortages Increase As New Heatwave Approaches

Morris County remains in the "abnormally dry" category, indicating conditions that typically stunt or delay crop growth, elevate fire danger, make lawns brown and gardens wilt early, and reduce surface-water levels, according to the National Drought Mitigation Center.
