How Many Inches Of Snow Is Parsippany Getting, And When? Township Sends Planning Info

PARSIPPANY, NJ — The National Weather Service says that the snowstorm predicted to hit the Northeast overnight is likely to drop 3-6 inches on Parsippany from Thursday night into Friday.

Here's the agency's forecast for Parsippany as of 1 p.m. Thursday:

  • Thursday night: Snow, mainly after midnight. Low around 26. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
  • Friday: A chance of snow, mainly before 9am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 34. Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
  • Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 18. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
  • Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 33. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the afternoon.

The National Weather Service placed Parsippany and portions of northwestern New Jersey under a winter-weather advisory for 10 p.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday. Plan on slippery road conditions, which could impact morning commutes, the agency said.

What to Know About Parking

Parsippany police reminded residents of what they need to know about parking in advance of snow:

  • If you usually park on public roads, plan ahead. Parking is prohibited on snow-covered public streets. If your vehicle is parked on the street, it can be ticketed and towed.
  • Sidewalks and handicap parking spots, along with the area around fire hydrants on your property, must be cleared of snow and ice within 24 hours of the storm stopping.
  • Accumulated snow and/or ice on your vehicle must be removed before driving. The fines for failure to do so range from $500 to $1,500 per violation.
