PARSIPPANY, NJ — Parsippany may receive less snow than much of New Jersey this weekend. But forecasters still anticipate some hazardous winter weather from the storm.

Parts of New Jersey — primarily the southern region — could see a foot of snow from the storm expected to run Friday night through Saturday. But forecasters expect Parsippany to get about 4-6 inches.

The National Weather Service anticipates Parsippany will get up to an inch of snow overnight Friday and then 2-4 inches Saturday. Then another half-inch could pile on Saturday night.

Snow will primarily hit after 2 a.m. Saturday, with heavy snowfall mostly coming before 2 p.m. that day. There's a 40 percent chance of precipitation Saturday night, which the National Weather Service expects to mainly come before 8 p.m.

The area could receive gusts as high as 30 mph during the day Saturday.

The north-moving storm will strengthen Friday off the Carolina coast, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The storm, which will travel up to New England, brings the greatest uncertainty for snowfall amounts from Virginia to Connecticut.

Here's the National Weather Service's forecast for Parsippany as of 4 p.m. Thursday:

  • Thursday night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 23. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
  • Friday: A slight chance of snow after 9 a.m. Cloudy, with a high near 36. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
  • Friday night: Snow likely, mainly after 2 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 16. North wind 5 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.
  • Saturday: Snow likely, mainly before 2 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 23. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
  • Saturday night: A chance of snow, mainly before 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 9. Northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half-inch possible.
  • Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 27.
  • Sunday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 13.
