Light Up Parsippany: Diwali Celebration Returns For 2023

The Parsippany Library will be hosting a vibrant and culturally enriching Diwali celebration on Saturday, Nov. 11, officials said.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Diwali, also known as the "festival of lights," is one of India's most important festivals. Diwali, an important festival for Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs, is celebrated by millions of Indian-origin people around the world.

In Parsippany, the local library system will be hosting its own Diwali celebration on Nov. 11 to share the joy and significance of the Festival of Lights with the community.

The festivities will run from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Main Library, which is located at 449 Halsey Road.

Millions of people worldwide celebrate the five-day Festival of Lights.

In a spiritual sense, Diwali represents the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. People dress up for the festival, decorate their homes with rangoli, and light up their homes with diyas (oil lamps).

Additionally, they hold Lakshmi (the goddess of prosperity and wealth) worship rituals and light fireworks while enjoying meals with their families.

Officials said the festival at the Parsippany Library will include Thillai Fine Arts dance performances, a taste of traditional Indian appetizers and sweets, and much more. During a hands-on workshop, attendees will be able to experience the delicate method of henna tattooing, and youngsters will be able to create their own Rangoli patterns.

The Parsippany Library's Diwali event is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome to participate in the fun, explore the beauty of Diwali, and share in the excitement of this cultural event.
