Mon Oct 24-Parsippany Students off School; Day of Diwali Fest Lights

Parsippany students are off school on Monday, October 24th. The calendar notes that it is a professional day for teachers, but that students get the day free.

If you've heard the fireworks around town, you may know that it is also Diwali.

According to https://www.prokerala.com, Diwali is a 5-day celebration beginning on October 23 and ending on October 27, 2022. Lakshmi Puja is the main festive day of Diwali and is celebrated on October 24th, 2022 this year. It is a day to worship Goddess Lakshmi for wealth and prosperity.

In Sanskrit, Diwali means "rows of lighted lamps" because of the traditional putting small lamps or candles in streets, houses, shops, and public places. Families feast and watch fireworks. The day relates to certain religious stories, including the return of Rama and Sita from exile, and Goddess Durga defeating Mahisha, a demon.
