Morris Co. Doc Known For Being Family Man Mourned After Murder
Dr. Mark Quadrel is remembered as a selfless doctor, and someone who was always there for his family. His son is charged in his death.

MINE HILL, NJ — For over 20 years, Dr. Mark Quadrel was an important part of the Morris County medical community, working as a doctor in Mine Hill and at St. Clare's Hospital in Dover.
But "Doc," as he was affectionately known, was so much more than that: He was a father, an athlete, an avid outdoors man, and someone "known for his selfless love and support of family."
His life, spent contributing to his community, ended last week when he was allegedly shot 20 times and killed by his son in Pennsylvania.

Quadrel was known for his compassion and dedication to his family and patients, with one former patient describing him as "one of the greatest doctors and above all one of the greatest people I've had the honor of knowing."
When he wasn't practicing medicine, Quadrel was helping others practice sports. He served as a coach in Rockaway, where he raised his family, coaching football, little league baseball, basketball and lacrosse. He kept himself active, and loved hiking, fishing, paintball, riding ATS, or "simply basking in the sun," an obituary says.

"Mark had also been my doctor and when he gave up his practice, he was irreplaceable. One of the most decent, kindest and giving men you could ever find. Rest in Peace, dear Mark. You were loved by many for so many reasons," one patient wrote.
"I am lucky to have known this man. I trusted him from the first time I met him as a Doctor and wanted him to be my Doctor forever. What a terrible loss. I am deeply saddened and will never forget him," another said.
Born in Montclair, Quadrel, 61, graduated from West Essex High School and Seaton Hall before earning a medical degree from Universidad de Noreste in Tampico, Mexico, an obituary says. He completed his residency at UMDNJ, where he would serve as a professor and attending physician at two separate points in his career.
After raising his family in Rockaway, Quadrel moved to Caldwell last year, where he lived at the time of his death.
Quadrel was predeceased by his wife, Wanda. He is survived by his three sons, his four sisters, and nieces and nephews.
A mass will be held Nov. 2 at 10 a.m. at St. Clement Pope & Martyr Church in Rockaway, with internment to follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in East Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that mourners support a cause Quadrel was passionate about: addiction prevention and counseling. Donations can be made in his name to: Heroin Epidemic Relief Organization (HERO), PO Box 2536, Orland Park, IL 60462-1091 www.herofoundation.org.
