New Vernon Athlete First In State To Score 100 Field Hockey Goals

Gabby Andretta scored her 100th goal during Wednesday afternoon's game.

NEW VERNON, NJ — A New Vernon athlete at Oak Knoll became the first New Jersey field hockey player to score 100 goals and make 100 assists.

Gabby Andretta, a senior midfielder at Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child accomplished this goal on Wednesday, cementing her place in the state record books. She joins a small group of athletes nationally to reach this milestone.

“This means so much to me to be able to accomplish this milestone, but it’s a result of a total team effort for the past four years,” Andretta said. “I would not have been able to do it without my teammates helping me along the way.”

Andretta scored four goals and made four assists during Wednesday's 12-0 victory over Mount St. Dominic in the second round of the 2017 NJSIAA Non-Public North Tournament, bringing her career total up to 100 goals and 102 assists.

“The most remarkable aspect of this achievement is the 100 assists. If you know or play with Gabby, her game revolves around her teammates,” coach Ali Good said. “It’s only fitting that she reached her assist record first in last night’s game. Then to achieve her 100 goal-mark in the same game is unheard of. From her freshman to senior year she constantly elevates her team with her gifted and selfless play."

Andretta will continue her field hockey career at Princeton in the fall.
