Parsippany Gets Several Inches Of Snow As Storm Clears Up
Parsippany schools are closed, but the brunt of the storm passed through the township. Here's what to know.
PARSIPPANY, NJ — The brunt of the storm passed through the Parsippany area overnight, leaving several inches of snow on the ground.
Morris County may have received less snow than surrounding areas, according to weather officials. Here's what the National Weather Service has reported for snowfall totals as of 9:30 a.m. Friday:

- Rockaway: 3 inches, 7:15 a.m.
- Dover: 2 inches, 3:37 a.m.
Somerset County
- Warren: 5.5 inches, 6:30 a.m.
- Branchburg Township: 5 inches, 7:15 a.m.
- Bridgewater: 4.5 inches, 6:30 a.m.
- 1 E Warren: 3.7 inches, 7:45 a.m.
The highest-reported snowfall totals primarily came from South Jersey, where parts of Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties saw 6 inches. Union Township in Union County also received a half-foot of snow.

Here's the National Weather Service's forecast for the Parsippany area as of 10 a.m. Friday:
- Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 33. Northwest wind around 15 mph.
- Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 15. West wind around 10 mph.
- Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 32. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the afternoon.
- Saturday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 22. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph after midnight.
- Sunday: A slight chance of freezing rain and sleet before 10am, then rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 40. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.
- Sunday night: A chance of rain, possibly mixing with snow after 1am, then gradually ending. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
A winter-weather advisory for the Parsippany area expired at 10 a.m. Friday. But the National Weather Service continues to urge caution on roads as temperatures remain below freezing.
The weather impacted several New Jersey schools, including Parsippany's. The Parsippany-Troy Hills School District canceled school for the second time in three days because of inclement weather, also doing so amid Wednesday's storm that caused icy roads.
Parsippany police reminded the public of the following regulations Thursday ahead of the snowstorm:
- If you usually park on public roads, plan ahead. Parking is prohibited on snow-covered public streets. If your vehicle is parked on the street, it can be ticketed and towed.
- Sidewalks and handicap parking spots, along with the area around fire hydrants on your property, must be cleared of snow and ice within 24 hours of the storm stopping.
- Accumulated snow and/or ice on your vehicle must be removed before driving. The fines for failure to do so range from $500 to $1,500 per violation.
As of 10 a.m. Friday, 511nj.org does not show any major accidents or delays on state roads and highways in the Parsippany area.
But several Morris County towns have reported crashes. Mendham Township police reported "a number of accidents in our area."
Boonton Township officials responded to several crashes between 8 and 9 a.m. Friday. Township police advised people to stay indoors and off the roads if possible.
