Parsippany Board Of Ed. Member Steps Down, Members Seek To Fill Vacancy

BOE members are looking to replace Andrew Choffo, who is stepping down from his position on the board.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — The Parsippany Board of Education is seeking to fill a vacancy after its Vice President has decided to step down from his position.

BOE VP Andrew Choffo announced his plans to resign in May, citing his “desire to better balance the demands of my professional responsibilities and family life.”

Choffo was reelected in 2024 and set to serve his term until 2027. Following his July 24 departure, the board is accepting applications to replace him.

Below are the applicant requirements according to the Parsippany BOE's bylaws:

  • A Board member must be a citizen of the United States.
  • A Board member must be a resident of the district the member represents and must have been such for at least one year immediately preceding the member's election or appointment.
  • A Board member may not be convicted of a felony.
  • A Board member must be able to read and write.
  • A Board member must be registered to vote in the district and not disqualified from voting pursuant to N.J.S.A. 19:4-1.
  • A Board member may not have been convicted of a crime or offense as listed in N.J.S.A. 18A:12-1.
  • A Board member cannot concurrently hold office as mayor or a member of the governing body of Parsippany-Troy Hills Township.

Officials are hoping to induct the replacement by the end of the month. The deadline to apply for the position is July 28 at 1 p.m.
