Parsippany Man Found With Drugs After Crashing Into Street Sign, Police Say

The 78-year-old faces drug charges, as well as five motor vehicle summonses, according to officials.

FLORHAM PARK, NJ — A Parsippany man who took down a street sign with his car while possessing cocaine was arrested earlier this month, according to Florham Park police.

Florham Park police found the 78-year-old man, unnamed, parked in an “unusual manner” outside of a closed local business around 2 a.m. on June 3, officials said.

As police approached the man’s car, they noticed significant damage to the vehicle and came to the conclusion that the man had hit and brought down a street sign in the center median along Columbia Turnpike at Hanover Road.

Police searched the 78-year-old and his car, finding 16 containers of suspected cocaine, authorities said. Officers also found paraphernalia “used to ingest controlled dangerous substances.”

The Parsippany man was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) and possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as with five motor vehicle offenses.

He was released on his own recognizance and is awaiting court proceedings, police said.
