Parsippany Police Share Holiday Package Delivery Tips

Package thefts tend to rise around the holidays, and Parsippany police have tips to avoid having something stolen.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — The holidays are almost here, and that means a huge uptick in online shopping package deliveries-- and package thefts. Parsippany police shared tips for any online shoppers to avoid seeing their packages stolen:

  • Sign-up for email and/or text notification alerts to track packages. You can also download apps onto your cellphone to quickly get notifications. This way you can plan your day a little better if you know when the package is due to be delivered.
  • If you are unsure if you will be home for delivery of your package, have it shipped to an alternate location. Such locations include shipping the item to a family or friends house who will be home to accept the package or directly to the store for pickup.
  • Have someone stop by your residence and pickup your package soon after it is delivered.
  • If possible, require a signature upon delivery.
  • Sign up for FedEx Delivery manager account or UPS my choice account. These accounts allow you to alter the delivery location, leave directions for the driver, and have them hold it at their facility for pickup.
  • Going to be out of town? If you submit a mail hold to the USPS, they will hold all mail and packages until you return.

If you see something suspicious or think you see a theft, call Parsippany police at 973-263-4300. For residents in other towns, call your local department's non emergency number.
