Voters Guide To Parsippany's Mayoral Primary Election, See Who's Running And Where To Vote

Two candidates are vying to get their names on the republican ticket this election.

PARSIPPANY, NJ โ€” The Primary Election is nearly upon us, and Parsippany voters have quite the choice to make: their new mayoral candidates.

Two candidates are vying to get their name on the republican ticket this year โ€” Parsippanyโ€™s Incumbent Mayor James Barberio, and Parsippany Councilman Justin Musella.

Barberio, seeking another four-year term, served as Parsippanyโ€™s mayor from 2010 to 2018. After losing his third re-election attempt in 2017 to Democrat Michael Soriano, Barberio returned in 2021 to beat Soriano and has served as the townโ€™s mayor since.

โ€œKnown for his pro-active leadership and commitment to revitalizing Parsippanyโ€™s economy, Mayor Barberio is dedicated to reaching out to residents and business owners,โ€ his campaign website reads. โ€œHe champions shared services and remains steadfast in fighting for the well-being of his constituents.โ€

Barberio is running alongside two council candidates: Council Vice President Frank Neglia and the townshipโ€™s Liaison to the Indian Community Jigar Shah.

Musella, seeking his first term as mayor, was elected to be a Parsippany councilman in 2021. Before entering local politics, Musella worked in financial technology services.

โ€œMusella, who is not afraid to take a controversial stance, distinguished himself from his Republican colleagues in Parsippany by fulfilling his campaign promise of voting against every tax increase since being elected,โ€ his campaign website reads.

Joining Musellaโ€™s campaign are two newcomer council candidates, John Bielen and Casey Parikh.

Barberio and Musella have clashed over the years regarding a number of different issues, including the annual budget, PILOT projects, and town government transparency.

A third candidate is running uncontested for the mayoral democratic ticket.

Pulkit Desai, a 25-year resident of Lake Parsippany, is an ex-Marine who works in cybersecurity.

Expected to join Desai on the democratic ticket are council candidates Matt Kavanagh and Diya Patel.
