Parsippany High-Thrift Shop For Students Run By Students
Parsippany's START transition program for ages 18-21 launches a $5 and less school community thrift shop for clothes and accessories.

Parsippany’s school district has a transition program called Successful Transition And Readiness Training (S.T.A.R.T) geared towards individuals with varying needs from ages 18-21 with a focus on life and work skills. The group recently launched “A Fresh START Thrift Store!” located at Parsippany High School for students and staff. The store sells new and gently used clothing and accessories appropriate for teens through adults, which can be purchased during the school day by the school's students and teachers.
The thrift shop is a supportive retail environment serving the broader student community, and offering an educational opportunity for S.T.A.R.T. students by exposing them to all aspects of store management, including: marketing, technology, managing inventory, cleaning and pressing clothing, as well as establishing pricing and assisting in sales. With prices set at just $5 or less, the clothing is intentionally affordable.
The store is currently open during lunchtime from 10:30am-11:15am for students and staff. The group is also exploring participating in “pop up” community shops, including one at Hanover Park on December 15th from 6-9pm during the holiday craft fair.

Currently, the store is well-stocked from the school community, and does not need additional donations. However, future opportunities may exist for community donations of stylish new or gently used clothing that would appeal primarily to students - the school would ask when the need arises.
