Parsippany Veterans Organization Celebrates Milestone Anniversary, Honored By Officials
The American Legion Chapter was given a proclamation by Parsippany's mayor.
PARSIPPANY, NJ — A local American Legion Chapter has been honored after celebrating a milestone anniversary.
The Parsippany Post #249 of the American Legion celebrated its 90th Anniversary on Saturday at its HQ in Lake Hiawatha. Joining them was Mayor James Barberio, who made a proclamation to honor the nonprofit organization.
“I want to recognize and thank you for all you do here for the community,” said Barberio. “This is an organization based on service- service to our country and service to community. You have exemplified that for 90 years, and it is truly an amazing impact you have had on so many lives. Thank you for all you do.”

Founded in 1935 as the Parsippanong Post #249, the group has been focused on supporting veterans, their families, and the community at large for nearly a century. The organization “strives to advocate for veterans and their families, supporting mental health initiatives and providing access to healthcare via the VA Health Care System.”
The American Legion was founded in 1919 to assist WWI veterans after the war’s conclusion. For more than 100 years, chapters nationwide have been steadfast in assisting veterans in a variety of ways.
