Roads Flood, Route 46 Reopens After Heavy Rain In Parsippany

More than 2 inches of rain fell in the Parsippany area, and there's still a chance of showers Friday night and Saturday.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Parts of Parsippany remained flooded Friday morning after a heavy rainstorm hit Parsippany. But Route 46 reopened early in the morning.

Officials closed Route 46 on Thursday night in both directions between Baldwin and North Beverwyck Roads because of flooding. But the major roadway reopened just before 2 a.m. Friday, according to Parsippany police.

Meanwhile, the Rockaway River in the Boonton area remained in a state of minor flooding as of Friday morning, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Overall, the Parsippany area received about 2.4 inches of rain, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. And there's still a chance of showers Friday night and Saturday, according to forecasters.

  • Saturday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 55. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
  • Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 39. West wind around 5 mph.
  • Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 50. West wind 10 to 15 mph.
  • Sunday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 36.
