Semester 1 Nearly Done for Parsippany Middle School & Up-Check Grades
Access online systems to ensure all of the student's submissions are in the system on time.

Next week is the end of the first marking periods of the 2022-2023 school year for Parsippany students in middle and high school. The good news is that the end is near, but not exactly here.
There are several school days to look into any missed work for middle and high schoolers on November 9 (more for elementary that has into December), so it’s a good time to do some parent homework (detective work). This should take you about 15 minutes tops.
- Parent Assignment 1. Log into your child’s school chromebook and go to Google Classroom.
- Click on the phrase “view to-do list” in the upper right hand part of the screen.
- “Assigned” and “Done” are the happy spots, so ignore those. You’re clicking on “Missing” on the top. Click the down arrow under “This week” “Last week” and “Earlier.”
- If it’s empty, be happy. If not, take a screenshot or some notes and wait for step 2.
2. Log into the Genesis grading portal.

- You can use the Parsippany school app from the app store, or you can just go to https://parents.pthsd.k12.nj.us/genesis. Login with your own username and password. If you can’t find it, use the student portal and log in with your child’s school account information, if you have to.
- From the top, select “Gradebook.” You should see a list of your child’s subjects.
- Click on the number grade of the first subject which looks like a link.
- You now see all of the individual assignments that led up to that grade. Scroll through and see if there are any “Missed” assignments or anything unusual. Watch for comments from the teacher (on my phone they look like pushpins - on my chromebook they are under a column called “comments”). Unfortunately the system doesn’t notify you when there is a comment - you have to look for them regularly.
- Go through each subject and make note of any missing work, comments, or anything else.
- While you're in Genesis print the new schedule for your child for Semester 2. Go to Summary, Student Schedule and choose a date in the next semester so you're looking at a semester 2 day, then print.
Stay calm. Compile these things for discussion. Sometimes in Google classroom, assignments are done, but students don’t select “submit” so they appear under missing which does not mean anything at all, and your child will likely reassure you. Missing work within the grading system is trickier - maybe it’s a mistake, maybe it’s something easy to do and your child can still get some credit. Ideally, depending on how much oversight the child needs you may find you need to look more frequently.
