PARSIPPANY, NJ — The Parsippany-Troy Hills Township School District will soon undergo a leadership change as Superintendent of Schools Barbara Sargent is resigning from her position.

Sargent, who has been working within the Parsippany-Troy Hills Township School District since 2017, has accepted a similar position at the West Morris Regional High School District, effective at the end of the school year.

The announcement was made on Friday, May 5 by the Parsippany-Troy Hills Board of Education.

"The district appreciates Dr. Sargent’s significant contributions to the district over these past six years and supports and thanks Dr. Sargent for her unwavering dedication to the students, staff, community, and our board," officials said. "Sargent’s leadership contributed to the district’s success, particularly during the challenge of the pandemic." Her service will leave a lasting and positive impact on our teachers and students."

The Parsippany-Troy Hills Township School District has yet to post a public announcement surrounding who will take over as superintendent in the coming school year.

Sargent has been working in education for more than 30 years and has previously worked as the Superintendent of Schools in Readington Township and the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in Madison.

Sargent began her tenure at the Parsippany-Troy Hills Township School District six years ago. In the 2021–2022 school year, Sargent made a salary of $228,000, according to state data that Patch pulled.

The Parsippany-Troy Hills School District is a comprehensive community public school district in Parsippany-Troy Hills Township that serves approximately 7,082 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade.

"As our school community moves forward, the board of education continues its dedication to creating a successful learning environment centered around students, supported by teachers, and representative of our community. The board is confident that all students will continue to be supported and served by the current educational programs and supports as the board takes steps to identify its new educational leader," school officials said.
