Trooper Rescues Dog Who Fell Through Ice At NJ Lake
Georgy the dog was struggling to remain afloat, and a passing trooper grabbed his gear and a paddle board to bring him ashore.

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, NJ — A New Jersey State Police trooper jumped into a chilly lake recently to save a small dog who had fallen through the ice, and was struggling to get to shore.
State Police shared a photo of the rescue taken by Jefferson Township Police officer Jason Fuehring.
Trooper I Michael Betz was headed to the State Police substation at Lake Hopatcong recently when he saw the small dog, named "Georgy," stuck on the ice. Betz tried to coax the dog to the shoreline, but Georgy was frightened and ended up falling through.

The dog was struggling to stay above water, but was able to make it to a rock formation sticking out from the lake, police said. He was still cut off from dry land, so Betz put on a dry suit and grabbed a nearby paddle board to swim out to the dog.
The trooper escorted Georgy back to shore, where he was "happily reunited with his owners."
